Ex-Louisville Football Player Sues School, Coach

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- A former University of Louisville football player has sued the school and coach Charlie Strong and says he was coerced into covering up a beating in the locker room by a pair of teammates.

Former Cardinals defensive lineman Patrick Grant of Sunrise, Fla., alleges that two teammates attacked him Oct. 24, 2010, in the locker room at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium and, according to the lawsuit, beat him "so badly that he required immediate, urgent care and nearly lost his left eye."

UK Coach Stoops Has Had "Whirlwind" First Two Weeks

LEXINGTON, Ky.-- New Kentucky coach Mark Stoops is finally able to stand still for a moment.  His thought process, however, remains at high speed.

Stoops says it's been a "whirlwind" since he was hired on Dec. 2. Things slowed down enough for him on Wednesday to provide an update on how he's putting the program together in his first few weeks and to announce the signings of junior college players Steven Borden and Za'Darius Smith, Stoops' first commitments.

Neal Brown Plans Up-Tempo Offense For Kentucky

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Neal Brown plans to bring the `Air Raid' offense to Kentucky. He said it won't take long to install the up-tempo, passing attack, that it can be done quickly.  The Wildcats new offensive coordinator said Tuesday he will employ the offense that helped Texas Tech's offense rank in the top 15 nationally during his three seasons there.

Phillips Takes Position With Florida Gators

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- It didn't take Joker Phillips long to find another job.  The former Kentucky head coach landed at No. 4 Florida on Monday, joining the Gators as receivers coach and recruiting coordinator.

Florida coach Will Muschamp said Phillips will begin work Friday.

Thompson Unlikely Hero In UK Women's Victory Over U Of L

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Janee Thompson scored all 13 of her points in the second half, including a 3-pointer with 8.4 seconds left, to lift No. 9 Kentucky to a 48-47 comeback victory over No. 6 Louisville Sunday night.

The freshman guard finished with 13 points and scored the final six for the Wildcats (6-1), who trailed by 14 points in the second half before rallying down the stretch behind tough defense that held Louisville without a field goal for the final 4:54.

Stoops Introduced To The Big Blue Nation

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky football program has a new man in charge.  Mark Stoops was officially introduced to a crowd of media and well wishers on Sunday. 

Stoops, one of the top defensive coordinators in the country, departs Florida State University, where his first order of business will be rebuilding a football program that went 0 and 8 in the Southeastern Conference this past season.

Louisville To Join Atlantic Coast Conference

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Atlantic Coast Conference has announced its presidents and chancellors have unanimously voted to add Louisville as the replacement for Maryland.

In a statement Wednesday, league Commissioner John Swofford said the addition of Louisville along with Notre Dame, Pittsburgh and Syracuse in the past year has made the league stronger.

Louisville athletic director Tom Jurich says the ACC was "the perfect fit for us."

Maryland announced last week it would join the Big Ten in 2014.

UK Hires Next Head Football Coach

LEXINGTON, Ky. - The University of Kentucky has confirmed the hiring of Florida State Defensive Coordinator, Mark Stoops, as the next head football coach for the Wildcats.  Stoops is the brother of Oklahoma Coach Bob Stoops.  He has been the Defensive Coordinator of the Florida State Seminoles since 2009.

Kentucky Falls To Vols 37-17 In Phillips Finale

KNOXVILLE, Tenn.  -- Kentucky couldn't send Joker Phillips out as a winner.  Tyler Bray went 20-of-34 for 293 yards with four touchdown passes Saturday as Tennessee defeated Kentucky 37-17 in a Southeastern Conference matchup that pitted a lame-duck coach against an interim coach.

The game drew an announced crowd of 81,841 at Neyland Stadium, though it appeared no more than 60,000 fans were actually in attendance.

Morehead State Suspends Sean Woods For One Game

MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Morehead State suspended coach Sean Woods Friday for one game after he pushed an Eagles player during Wednesday's loss at No. 8 Kentucky.

Woods will sit out Monday night's home game against Norfolk State.

Morehead State athletic director Brian Hutchinson suspended Woods Friday after meeting with the coach.
