Kentucky Set To Play Four Straight Ranked Opponents

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Kentucky coach Mark Stoops didn't have long to savor his first win as a head coach before preparing his team for one of the toughest stretches of the season.

Saturday's visiting by in-state rival No. 7 Louisville begins a four-game segment including contests against No. 18 Florida, a road game at No. 13 South Carolina followed by a visit from top-ranked Alabama.

Kentucky has many challenges with a schedule featuring eight bowl teams from last season.

Cats Bounce Back, Blow Out Redhawks 41-7

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Maxwell Smith threw three long touchdown passes and Jalen Whitlow and Raymond Sanders each added scoring runs as Kentucky beat Miami (Ohio) 41-7 on Saturday.

The Wildcats made a winner of first-year coach Mark Stoops and Smith, who started for the first time since a season-ending ankle injury last September.

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Following a news briefing on football crowd control Friday WUKY asked UK Athletics Director Mitch Barnhart for his opinion on whether the school should continue to publicly honor former basketball Wildcat Richie Farmer.  His jersey currently hangs in the rafters of Rupp Arena as part of the 1992 Unforgettables Team.

Kentucky Changes QB's; Smith To Start This Week

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Kentucky coach Mark Stoops knew getting the Wildcats on track would take a lot of work.

Saturday's 35-26 loss to Western Kentucky reinforced that notion and raised more questions for the first-year coach. He addressed an important issue on Monday, naming sophomore Maxwell Smith to replace Jalen Whitlow as starting quarterback for Saturday's home opener against Miami (Ohio).

Petrino, WKU Spoil Stoops' Big Blue Debut

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Keshawn Simpson ran for a pair of 3-yard touchdowns and Antonio Andrews added his own 3-yard score as Western Kentucky beat Kentucky 35-26 Saturday night, spoiling the debut of first year Wildcat Coach Mark Stoops.

The Hilltoppers also beat their in-state rival for a second straight year, though they didn't need overtime like they did last year in this win over the Southeastern Conference program.  They outgained Kentucky 487-419 in total offense and held the ball for 35 minutes.

UK Backfield Adjusting To Pass First Philosophy

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Kentucky will ask a lot of its running backs this season.  Carrying the ball might be the least of their responsibilities.

New Wildcats offensive coordinator Neal Brown is implementing his pass-oriented "Air Raid" scheme that means the tailbacks' first priorities are catching passes and blocking.

Seniors Jonathan George and Raymond Sanders say that shifting their mindset from punishing defenses rushing the ball to improving their receiving and blocking skills has been an adjustment.

UK Puts More Restrictions On What Fans Can Bring Into Commonwealth

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- University of Kentucky officials have announced a new security policy that bans backpacks and large bags from Commonwealth Stadium.

Fans are allowed one small bag no bigger than 13.5 by 10.7 inches that must fit within sizing bins at stadium gates.

The measure announced Thursday takes effect with Kentucky's Sept. 7 home opener against Miami (Ohio).

UK - U of L Football Game Will Close The Season In 2014

LOUISVILLE, Ky.  — Kentucky's 2014 football schedule will move some old foes up on the calendar to accommodate another rival.

The Wildcats' annual season finale against Tennessee will instead be their next-to-last contest in Knoxville on Nov. 15, ending an arrangement with the Volunteers dating back to 1953.  In its place is a showdown at in-state rival Louisville (Nov. 29), which Kentucky often faced in September including several openers.

Kentucky's annual meeting against Vanderbilt will also be played earlier, moving from November to Sept. 27 at Commonwealth Stadium.

14 Of Wildcats' SEC Games On National TV

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Kentucky's eight highly touted freshmen will get a lot of national exposure during Southeastern Conference play.

The Wildcats' SEC road opener at Vanderbilt on Jan. 11 will mark the first of 14 nationally televised league games between ESPN's networks and CBS. But it's their only meeting against the Commodores on a docket missing home-and-home games against traditional rivals since divisional play has been scrapped.
