Law Day Observed At State Capitol

Frankfort, KY – This year's keynote speaker was Kentucky Supreme Court Justice Daniel Venters, who says he once was asked by a client why we have so many lawyers. "To him, they seemed to be everywhere, like weeds in a garden. I reminded him that ours is a complex society that believes in the rule of law."

Keeneland Generally Pleased With Spring Meeting

Lexington, KY – Keeneland spokesman Jim Williams says despite having one less racing day, 240,755 people made it out to the track. That's down just over 1 percent from last spring's attendance total of 243,606.


Williams disputes the claim that Keeneland's all sources handle has been down consistently since the track installed Polytrack, a synthetic racing surface, in 2006.

Second Verse, Same As The First!

Frankfort, KY – Governor Beshear says internal revenue projections for fiscal 2010, which begins July 1st, indicate the state could be facing a shortfall of between 818-million dollars and one billion dollars. "This situation is going to require some thoughtful and decisive action."

Will that include a special legislative session? "There will likely be a special session."

Could It Be Sweet "Revenge" At The Derby?

Louisville, KY – A full field of twenty is entered in Saturday's race. The early favorite, at 3 to 1,

is "I Want Revenge," trained by Jeff Mullins.

This is Mullins' fifth Derby, but his first as trainer of a morning line favorite.


"I Want Revenge" is coming off victories in the Wood Memorial and Gotham

Stakes at Aqueduct Racetrack in New York.

He'll be ridden by 19 year old jockey Joe Talamo and will break from post

position 13.

UK Starts Consortium To Tackle Carbon Dioxide Emissions

Lexington, KY – Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear says the state will join with utility companies and the University of Kentucky for a 24-million dollar, ten year project studying ways to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from coal-fired power plants. UK President Lee Todd says these are the kind of problems the state's flagship university should be working to solve. The project will be managed by the university's Center for Applied Energy Research.

Boxing Champ Greg Page Passes Away

Louisville, KY – Page held the World Boxing Association heavyweight title from December of 1984

until April of 1985. It was during a comeback attempt eight years ago against Dale

Crowe in northern Kentucky that Page suffered injuries that left him permanently

disabled. Funeral arrangements for Greg Page are pending.
