Winter Storm Hits Kentucky With Heavy Snow

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet

Kentucky has been walloped by a winter storm that has dumped more than a foot of snow across parts of the Bluegrass state.

The National Weather Service says more than 14 inches of snow have fallen in Louisville and Lexington from a storm that hit the state Wednesday evening and continued overnight into Thursday.

In western Kentucky, snow accumulations have reached 11 inches in Paducah and 10 inches in Owensboro.

In Hardin County, emergency officials say the snow is so thick that tow trucks and snow plows are getting stuck.

Heavy sleet has fallen in portions of eastern Kentucky ahead of the snow.

Weather service meteorologist Kevin Deitsch says the snow is winding down in the Louisville area, but a few more inches could fall in eastern Kentucky before the storm exits the state.
