Unemployment Falls In 93 Counties In February

By Associated Press

Frankfort, KY – Jobless rates have fallen in 93 counties, though many still struggle with high unemployment.

The Kentucky Office of Employment and Training released its February unemployment report on Thursday. It showed 24 counties with higher jobless rates. Three counties remained the same.

Fayette and Woodford counties recorded the lowest jobless rates at 8.6 percent each. Oldham and Webster counties each had rates of 8.8 percent.

Magoffin County had the state's highest unemployment rate at 20.3 percent, but others were close behind. Jackson County's rate was 19.9 percent. Menifee came in at 19 percent and Lewis County at 18 percent.

Kentucky bases its jobless rates on estimates of workers and unemployed residents who are actively seeking work. They do not include people who have become discouraged and stopped looking for jobs.
