UK's Terrence Jones Named SEC Freshman of the Year

By Alan Lytle

Lexington, KY – UK freshman Terrence Jones was named the SEC Freshman of the Year according to league coaches, as announced by the league office on Tuesday.

Jones, a 6-8 forward from Portland, Ore., averaged 17.1 points, 9.2 rebounds and 1.9 blocks in the regular season. He led the league in double-doubles (11) and rebounding and ranked sixth in scoring and blocked shots.

Jones is the second straight Wildcat to win the league's Freshman of the Year honor, following the heels of DeMarcus Cousins. He is the third player in UK history to win in the award, joining Cousins and Patrick Patterson (2008).

Jones and Brandon Knight were both voted First Team All-SEC performers and the two were joined by Doron Lamb on the SEC All-Freshman team. It marks the second straight season, and second time in program history, UK has placed three players on the Freshman All-SEC team.

Junior DeAndre Liggins was named to the SEC All-Defensive Team.

Kentucky returns to action Friday in Atlanta in the quarterfinals of the SEC Tournament. UK will take on the winner of the Ole Miss-South Carolina game around 3:30.
