TSA Gives Tips On Flying With Firearms

Vacation season is just around the corner and that usually means more air-travel.  Recently, there has been an uptick in the number of firearms that aren’t stored or checked properly for flights.

TSA Spokesperson Mark Howell made a stop at the Lexington Bluegrass Airport to remind you the regulations for flying with those items.  “You need a hard sided case.  It needs to be able to be locked.  The firearm needs to be unloaded.  Ammunition if you’re carrying it needs to be in a case, it can’t be loose in the bag.  You have to declare it to the airline, put the declaration card in the box and do not bring it to the check point.”

And a mistake can be costly, starting with a possible fine of $75-hundred dollars for the first offense or even worse, facing felony charges.  Since January 1st of this year, three guns have already been confiscated at checkpoints at Bluegrass Airport.  Howell said that’s a fairly high number this early in the year for such a small hub.
