Third-Generation UK Student to Speak at Commencement
Emily Willett is a third-generation UK student, with family members having attended the University since her grandfather’s time, and will be speaking at Commencement on Saturday.
She’s been an active member of Alpha Delta Pi, and a student tour guide, but her greatest involvement has been in music.
“I had some wonderful experiences being a part of the UK women’s choir and also the female acapella group Paws and Listen. I even got to travel abroad to England and Ireland and perform in a lot of fantastic venues, so it was a great experience, and something I’m so glad I added to my experience at UK,” she said.
Emily studied business at the Gatton College, but professionally, she plans on going in a different direction. She will attend UK’s College of Dentistry next year, and is aiming for a residency program in orthodontics. She hopes to open her own practice and also use her skills pro-bono.
“I have done some volunteer work with some different clinics here in Kentucky that offer free dental care for residents that can’t afford it and need help, and I was always so impressed with the dentists who always took time to volunteer there and offered their work and their skills for free, so that’s definitely something I’m interested in doing in the future,” she said.
commencement speech will focus on memories of the past and how her fellow wildcat alumni can reflect on them for the future. She will kick off the 1:00 PM ceremony this Saturday.
