FRANKFORT, Ky. – The results are in of a statewide job satisfaction survey for teachers and principals.
Just over 42,000 Kentucky public school teachers and principals responded to the TELL (Teaching, Empowering, Leading and Learning) survey, which was administered online in March. State Department of Education spokeswoman Lisa Gross says the questionnaire touched on a variety of topics related to work and teaching conditions.
83 percent of respondents said they intend to continue teaching at their current school.
"We hear a lot of discussion nationwide about teacher turnover. So it's really heartening to see that a vast majority say that they want to stay in their school."
Not all the findings were positive. Gross says only 63 percent of teachers said they had sufficient instructional time to meet the needs of all students.
"In Kentucky state law requires that an instructional school day contain a minimum of six hours. And really six hours in not a lot of time."
The data will be used to make educational improvements and possibly regulatory changes at the state and local level. Complete survey results are available online.
