A section of Interstate 75 through central Kentucky has reopened after being shut down in both directions because of a chemical spill.
Kentucky State Police told WKYT-TV in Lexington that ferric chloride solution spilled at mile marker 96 in the northbound lanes at about 10 a.m. Tuesday. Police say southbound lanes reopened around 4 p.m. and northbound lanes reopened about a half-hour later.
Troopers say one officer was taken to the hospital, but his condition was not immediately available. Troopers say they don't know what led to the leak.
Ferric chloride is also known as iron chloride. It's mainly used to remove impurities in water and for wastewater treatment.
