LEXINGTON, Ky. – The national organization known for its emotional recordings of conversations between friends and family members has set up a mobile recording booth in central Kentucky.
StoryCorps started collecting interviews in downtown Lexington Thursday at its Airstream trailer parked at Main and Upper Streets.
"I had some memories brought back of things I hadn't thought about in a long time, and some perspectives, even a couple conversations we'd never had before," said Keeneland President Nick Nicholson.
Nicholson talked to his younger brother, Kentucky Horse Park Executive Director John Nicholson. They said the interview was like having a conversation at the kitchen table.
"To be able to have that experience with a loved one, with an important person, it's incredible," said StoryCorps supervisor Eloise Melzer.
StoryCorps partnered with public radio station WUKY and will be in Lexington through June 25. The group has also collected Kentucky interviews in Whitesburg and Murray.
With permission, the recordings are archived at the Library of Congress and some StoryCorps interviews are broadcast on NPR's Morning Edition.
WUKY plans to air select interviews in coming weeks. CLICK HERE to learn more about signing up for a StoryCorps recording session.
