LEXINGTON, Ky. – Shangri-La Productions and STORY magazine teamed up to create Sessions, a unique writing, recording and live event that brings together different musical genres to create an original musical collective. On board for the first performance of Sessions is a long list of musicians who have made their artistic mark around the globe:

  • Coralee Townie – vocals (Coralee & The Townies)

  • Freekbass – bass (Bootsy Collins, Bernie Worrell)

  • Kevin Ratterman – drums (Jim James, formerly of Wax Fang, My Morning Jacket engineer and owner of La La Land Studios)

  • Mark Heidinger – co-writer (Vandaveer)

  • Robby Cosenza – percussion (Fanged Robot/These United States/Scourge of the Sea)

  • Willie Breeding – co-writer (The Breedings)

  • John Ferguson – keyboards (Big Fresh/The Apples in Stereo)

  • J. Tom Hnatow – guitar (These United States/Mynabirds)

  • Lee Carroll – keyboards (The Judds/Exile)

  • Joe Drury – guitars (Summer Smoke)

  • Duane Lundy – producer/mixer (Shangri-La Productions)

Filmmaker Mark Cornelison documented the entire process – from musicians practicing at home to the live performance – with editing by Beardhouse Media. We are psyched to share the final video as well as the original song, which will soon be available for download. This first episode is sponsored by Give Into the Groove, a feel-good multimedia art event with the purpose of drawing attention to community needs and unleashing artists of all ages.

About Shangri-La – Owned by musician/producer/mixer Duane Lundy, Shangri-La Recording Studio has worked with dozens of nationally renowned musicians, including Joe Pug, Dawn Landes, Jim James, Ben Sollee and Sunday Valley as well as projects involving the musicians in the Sessions collective.
