SBA Grant To Help Veteran, Minority Contractors

By Brenna Angel

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Newly awarded grant money from the U.S. Small Business Administration could help veteran and minority construction workers in Kentucky launch and improve their own general contractor business.

Congressman Ben Chandler and a coalition called the Central Kentucky Regional Public Policy Group announced the grant Tuesday in Lexington. The Bluegrass Veteran and Minority Owned Contractor Incubation Program will be administered by the Associated General Contractors of Kentucky.

"With the $50,000, we fell as though that's going to give us a good strong foothold in servicing the three individual companies that will participate in the first phase of the program," says AGC Executive Vice President Richard Vincent.

Vincent says the program will provide assistance to veterans, minorities, and disabled contractors with office space, financial services, and marketing of their business.

Another $150,000 dollars in grant money will benefit other projects that the Central Kentucky Regional Public Policy group says are still in the planning stages.
