A satirical Kentucky candidate for U.S. Senate is issuing a fundraising challenge to Sen. Mitch McConnell and Alison Lundergan Grimes.
And though the winner will receive his support, it’s an endorsement neither is likely to tout.
The creation of anti-corruption group Represent.Us, Gil Fulbright’s campaign is meant to be a joke. Through satirical ads and fake speeches, the candidate is intended to draw attention to the problem of money in politics.
Monday, Fulbright – or rather the actor playing Fulbright – said he’s got two commercials, one pro-McConnell and the other pro-Grimes, already loaded up and ready to go.
"Now whichever candidate raises the most money in the next month will have my endorsement. My very vocal and public endorsement. I will show the winning commercial over and over the airwaves here in the Bluegrass state applauding them for their fiscal achievement," he said in a speech.
But any candidate who wishes to unload that endorsement has one more option.
If either voice their support for anti-corruption reforms such as those outlined in the American Anti-Corruption Act, that Senate hopeful will lose the dubious honor.
