Public Input Wanted For Old Courthouse Plans

You are invited to see renderings of the proposed $30 million renovation of the Fayette County Courthouse at a public meeting being held this week.

It will be at the Fifth Third Bank Pavilion on West Main Street in downtown Lexington on Wednesday at noon until one.  You’ll have a chance to see the plans, ask questions and give your input.

The building was closed in 2012 and had numerous environmental issues including asbestos, mold and lead-based paint.  The city has been given money from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Kentucky Department of Environmental Protection to help pay to fix some of those problems.

The plans include room for Lexington’s Convention and Visitors Bureau, a restaurant and an event space available for rent on the top floor.  Renovations of the interior of the old courthouse are slated to be completed in 2018.
