Program Pairs College Students With Senior Men In Need Of Culinary Help

Jan 17, 2018

This week on Dr. Greg Davis on Medicine the host talks with Katy Woodall, a senior at Whitman College in Washington state.  She coordinates the Men Making Meals program which pairs college students with elderly men in need of cooking lessons.  Studies show older men who don't cook for themselves are at a higher risk of social, psychological and physical challenges.

Men Making Meals features eight Whitman students who are paid to work with local chefs to help senior men in Walla Walla learn important culinary skills. This program was developed to help break the wall built by gender norms through teaching men a task traditionally seen as feminine: the art of cooking.
