Officers From Across The State Will Pay Tribute To Fallen Colleague

Louisville Metro Police Department

Police officers will join other mourners for a long funeral procession for a Louisville police detective who was struck and killed by an alleged drunken driver in Lexington, Kentucky.

Detective Jason Schweitzer's funeral will be Wednesday afternoon at a Catholic church in Louisville. The burial will be at Cave Hill Cemetery.

Lexington police say Schweitzer had stopped to ask University of Kentucky employee Timothy Moore for directions when both pedestrians were struck and killed early Saturday. The driver is facing manslaughter and driving under the influence charges.

37-year-old Schweitzer was in Lexington for a Fraternal Order of Police conference when he was killed. He had been a police officer in Jefferson County since 2001.

The tragedy spurred an outpouring of condolences from state and Louisville officials.
