Investigators say that around 11:30 last night an unknown person went up to the driver’s side of the taxi, tried to rob the driver and shot through the window. The driver has been identified as 38-year old David DePhillips of Newport.
WCPO-TV in reports that a woman was in the backseat and witnessed the shooting. However, police said she was not a customer. DePhillips tried to flee the scene after the shooting, crashing into several parked cars and a tree a few blocks later.
Emergency crews rushed the taxi driver to University of Cincinnati Medical Center where he died from his injuries.
