New Multi-Million Dollar Dining Hall Opens At UK

UK students are in for a whole new dining experience on campus this semester.

Some UK alum may remember a popular block of fraternity houses known as the six pack.  They were nestled near ‘the 90’ which was the nickname students gave to the corner of Hilltop and Woodland Avenues.  Now the next generation of UK Students will come to know ‘The 90’ and the lot as the hot spot for student dining and learning. Austin Mullin, UK’s student body president said “The 90 will remain a meeting place but it is also so much more.  Interactive classrooms where students will learn, the Wildcat Pantry where students will be able to purchase fresh produce, the worry free zone where students with food allergies do not have to stress about what they can and cannot eat, a demonstration kitchen where farmers and nutritionists will be able to educate students on Kentucky Proud products and the 1,000 seat fresh food market where students will share ideas and establish friendships, all while strengthening the UK Community”

Joyce Hicks is a Chef in the ‘Worry Free Zone’ which contains gluten and peanut free food choices.  She told me the new 82,000 square foot facility exceeded expectations. “It’s big time!  There are tons of choices” she said.

The project took 11 months to complete and came at a price tag of $32 million.
