Many Kentuckians Planning Road Trips This Holiday Weekend

By Alan Lytle

Lexington, KY – Many of us will be taking to the highways and byways this holiday weekend; the traditional start of the summer traveling season. AAA of the Bluegrass spokesman Christopher Oakford says because of the anticipated high volume of traffic on the roadways, motorists should work a little flexibility into their travel plans.

"I know that it is difficult; trying to get away from work, get everybody organized to get on the road, but there's no point putting yourself under pressure, and maybe speeding, driving badly to try to make up for it."

Oakford says he's seen no evidence that higher gasoline prices will deter that many folks from hitting the road.

"We did a survey and found that six out of ten people said it's not having an impact at all and the other four said it might have an impact but what we'll do is spend less on things like the hotel or on food."

AAA says about 35-million Americans will travel at least fifty miles away from their homes during the three day holiday weekend.
