LEXINGTON, Ky. -- – Recycling in Lexington just got a little easier. City officials say new upgrades allow for a streamlined system where customers no longer need to separate glass from other recyclable material in their Rosie containers.
Waste Management Director Steve Feese hopes this will lead to more people choosing to recycle.
"[Customers] will also see a change in the type of truck that is used to collect the material. Because of the fact that we're co-mingling, we don't have to have that separate glass bin, we can use automated collection systems."
Feese says the $3.5 million in improvements allow for the triple the recycling capacity at the Lexington recycling center. Officials expect to recoup that cost in savings from reduced landfill fees.
