Lexington Legends Part Ways With Applebees Moniker

By Brenna Angel

Lexington, KY – The home of Lexington's minor league baseball team is getting a new name. Lexington Legends President Alan Stein announced Monday that Applebee's will no longer hold the naming rights for the ballpark. Stein says the decision to part ways was mutual between him and Mike Scanlon, who runs Applebee's franchisee Thomas & King Inc.

"Mike very graciously said, If you decide that you want to find another partner, I will stay on, Thomas & King and Applebee's will stay on until you find that other partner.' We were very fortunate and very glad to be able have found that partner in a timely manner so that this transition could occur exactly as it has."

The Applebee's contract started ten years ago on the Legends' opening day. Stein says fans can expect to see a build-up to the announcement of a new sponsor, which should happen sometime in mid-January.
