Legacy Trail Ready For Its Closeup

By Alan Lytle

Lexington, KY – Bikers, joggers, and walkers are being encouraged to strap on their helmets, lace up the shoes, and come try out Lexington's Legacy Trail for the first time this Sunday. Bluegrass Community Foundation director Steve Austin, says a special day of activities is planned to celebrate the grand opening of a major portion of the twelve mile project that will eventually connect the Kentucky Horse Park with downtown Lexington.

"The trail itself opens officially at one o'clock this coming Sunday with events all up and down the trail. The Northside YMCA on Loudon Avenue is having a family fun day that's open to everyone in the city, we're having events and music at the Coldstream Trailhead and Coldstream Research Park. We're inviting folks to come out and trailgate' with us, bring a picnic, bring their family and friends, and just come out and have a great time in this new park which is what we are building."

In lieu of a ribbon, a host of dignitaries will cut a special 100 foot blue and white SHOELACE during opening ceremonies Sunday afternoon at 3. About 8 and a half miles of the trail will be open starting this weekend.
