Frankfort, KY – This year's keynote speaker was Kentucky Supreme Court Justice Daniel Venters, who says he once was asked by a client why we have so many lawyers. "To him, they seemed to be everywhere, like weeds in a garden. I reminded him that ours is a complex society that believes in the rule of law."

Venters says he understands people often feel frustrated, even annoyed, by the burdens sometimes imposed by the legal processes implicit in the rule of law. "But we should not be surprised or offended that citizens who would send their children around the world to die protecting and securing liberty for other people would not hesitate to assert their own in a court of law."

During the ceremonies in the House chambers, 143 new lawyers who passed the Kentucky Bar Exam in February were sworn-in.
