Kids Face Charges After Ice Cream Theft

Four Lexington youths face multiple robbery charges, their latest heist ended with a trip to the police station with their parents.

According to Lexington Police Spokeswoman Sherelle Roberts, four kids between the ages of 11 and 14 were stealing from an ice-cream truck parked in a driveway on Trail Wood Lane on Monday.  When the owner caught them, they fired at him with a BB gun and ran down the street.  Three of the suspects then broke into a neighboring home.  Roberts said they were greeted by the home owner who knew just how to handle the situation.  “This gentleman does have some former law enforcement experience which was ironic.  These young people weren’t expecting to run into someone who did have that sort of experience and so he was able to detain them.”

The three were taken to the station and the fourth youth turned himself in.  Roberts said they are all charged with “four counts of burglary, one count of robbery second degree and the investigation is continuing.  And we’re looking into the possibility that these young people could be connected to some other crimes, break-ins and thefts in the area.”

Roberts said during the course of the investigation, police recovered 7 firearms, three laptops and two gaming systems.
