By Associated Press

FORT THOMAS, Ky. – A northern Kentucky soldier has died of wounds suffered in fighting in Afghanistan.

The Defense Department said Wednesday that 21-year-old Pvt. Brandon T. Pickering of Fort Thomas died Sunday at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany of wounds suffered two days earlier.

The military says Pickering was wounded when enemy forces attacked his unit with small-arms fire and a rocket-propelled grenade in Wardak province.

He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 4th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division at Fort Polk, La.
