Kentucky Named New Home For National Horse Show

By Brenna Angel

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The country's oldest indoor horse show is coming to Kentucky. Officials announced Wednesday that the 128th edition of the National Horse Show will be hosted at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington.

For years the event was held at Madison Square Garden in New York City. But National Horse Show Association President Mason Phelps says downtown Manhattan was not ideal.

"We had to manufacture a basketball court and a hockey arena with dirt and a ramp to get up to the fifth floor and the stabling indoors and shutting down 33rd Street and 34th Street. So the production end of it was unbelievable. Here it's a turn-key situation, they've got a great facility, great stabling, everything you could ask for."

The National Horse Show also had stints in Wellington, Florida and Syracuse, New York.

Hunters and jumpers will now compete in the Alltech Arena at the Kentucky Horse Park. Alltech has signed on as the title sponsor of the equestrian competition.

The National Horse Show runs November 2-November 6.
