Kentucky Blood Center Needs You

Blood supplies are down at the Kentucky Blood Center so you're being asked to roll up your sleeve!

Imagine you or someone you love heading to the hospital after an accident or for surgery, needing a transfusion and finding out there isn't any blood in to be found.  Because of the Kentucky Blood Center, that hasn't happened in Kentucky but supplies are low and spokeswoman Denise Fields is asking you to take the time to roll up your sleeves.  "There's no other thing but blood if someone needs a transfusion there's no artificial blood.  It's the real thing, we need real donors and there are real Kentucky patients out there waiting every day.  It could be a cancer patient.  It could be someone waiting to have surgery.  It could be a new mom whose had a difficult delivery and she needs a transfusion.  It could be that infant that's had a lot of blood work done.  You just never know."

Fields tells us donations usually drop in the early spring because so many people are out of town on vacations and businesses and schools don't schedule as many mobile drives.  There are two donation centers located in Lexington, one in Andover and one in Beaumont.  For hours of operation or to find a mobile drive near you click here http://www.kybloodcenter.org
