First Lady Jane Beshear was in Frankfort earlier today to kickoff a special fundraising drive as part of the Horses and Hope Breast Cancer Awareness campaign. The goal is to raise $1M to purchase a mobile unit to provide free or reduced-cost breast, colon, prostate, head & neck, skin, lung, and cervical cancer screenings to underserved populations across Kentucky.
"The Horses and Hope mobile cancer screening van will offer special screening and education events, it'll provide referrals to local healthcare providers, it'll link patients to local resources, and it'll help uninsured individuals access affordable coverage through kynect," Beshear said.
The van will be equipped to provide breast, colon, prostate, head & neck, skin, lung, and cervical cancer screenings. Kroger and Churchill Downs have already committed a combined $115,000 toward the effort. Mrs. Beshear said she hopes to have all of the money raised by the end of her husband’s administration.
