LEXINGTON, Ky. -- – Some colorful works of art now adorn Lexington's public libraries. Fifty foals and seven full-size fiberglass horses decorated by Fayette County students went on display Thursday.

LexArts President Jim Clark says the Horse Play project is an offshoot of Horse Mania 2010.

"It provides an opportunity for the kids to learn about the equine industry while they're working on it, as well as being able to work with artists and the arts teachers to demonstrate how creative they are."

The student designs include an American flag theme and a skeleton horse that glows in the dark.

"There are so many great stories that go with it. Harrison Elementary has a horse, they've artistically created a way of getting kids to incorporate their memories and important moments in their life into the piece, so it has a real personal touch," says Clark.

The horses will remain on display at Lexington's six library branches through October. Hundreds of other Horse Mania designs will go up around Lexington on July 15.
