Lexington, KY – The orginal ban provided exemptions to private organizations' facilities, like bingo halls, and workspaces not open to the public. It also did not apply to public transportation.
Lexington-Fayette County Health Department spokesman Kevin Hall, says those loopholes have been closed and enforcement begins immediately.
The health department will enforce the ordinance on a complaint basis, but Hall says businesses also have a responsibility to post no smoking signs, and a adopt a policy to discourage the activity.
In 2007, the health department issued just over two-hundred citations. So far this year, ninety-thee have been handed out.
Anyone with questions is being asked to call the health department.
