Group Donates Funds To Help Preserve Building

On Monday, board members of The Warwick Foundation voted to give $300,000 toward the $850,000 cost associated with moving and relocating the former Peoples Bank building on South Broadway.

That amount, along with other money raised through private donors means efforts to move the building to a nearby lot on High Street are just $300,000 away from coming to fruition.  And if approved by the Urban County Council, Mayor Jim Gray has allocated $150,000 in the 2015-16 fiscal year’s budget to help save the structure.

Langley Properties, the company that owns the building and the lot it sits on had been granted a permit to have it torn down last week.  They decided instead to delay the building’s demolition so that preservation groups could have time to try and raise the funds to save it.
