Free Narcan Is Now Available At The Needle Exchange Program

Free doses of a life-saving drug are being given out at the Fayette County Health Department.

Last year 115 people in Lexington died of a drug overdose. Many of those lives could have been saved with Narcan., which blocks opiate receptors in the brain and works within minutes. Narcan kits will be available to the community through the needle exchange program at the Lexington Fayette County Health Department. Spokesman Kevin Hall.  “It’s going to save lives and it already has saved lives. We provided free Narcan to the community earlier through the UK College of Pharmacy. We do know people used the kits, they came back for refills which means that Narcan has been used and they need the refill on it.”

More than 1200 kits have been made available through a grant from the Bureau of Justice Assistance. The kits will be given away every Friday from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Health Department’s main location on Newtown Pike.
