New and returning members of the University of Kentucky Board of Trustees were officially sworn in Thursday.
Three appointed members are joining or rejoining the board. They include Claude Berry, Barbara Young, and a name most probably associated with automobiles, Frank Shoop.
The one elected member raising his right hand was new student representative Austin Mullen. He says, with UK’s transformation still ongoing, it’s important the board hear from the students as they look beyond all the jackhammers and dust.
"We're at a pivotal point in the university's history where, after that infrastructure is in place, we can really continue to increase the quality of our students from ACT scores to preparedness, and then ideally just propel to a university where other state institutions look at us to model themselves after," he says.
The 20-member board gathers for its regular meetings about seven times a year, in addition to special meetings and retreats.
