A former Kentucky Wildcat is getting national support over a pair of cleats.
Avery Williamson, who plays for the Tennessee Titans had a pair of cleats that were painted to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the 9-11 attacks but the NFL threatened to fine him if he wore them onto the field during Sunday’s game. Williamson didn’t back down and fans got behind him, they set up go-fund me accounts to pay any fines that were handed down. Billy Hobbs of True Blue Customs designed the shoes. “He called me last night and told me he was wearing them today. I don’t think anyone really knew until he came out of the tunnel with them.”
Several police unions in New York and New Jersey also said they’d kick in to pay for the fines. Williamson's cleats were painted red, white, and blue and emblazoned with "9-11-01" and "Never Forget.” He plans to auction them off and donate the money to Operation Warrior Wishes.
