Fall Semester Starts at UK

By Brenna Angel

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Thousands of students started back to class at the University of Kentucky Wednesday. UK President Dr. Lee Todd says for the first time in 25 years, the undergraduate studies program is undergoing major changes, including smaller class sizes.

"Teaching writing across the curriculum, where we have our College of Education working with our Communications Department, other departments. We're trying to make the undergraduate experience more international, more global, more diverse and so I'm excited to see how that goes."

University of Kentucky students are paying more in tuition than they did in the spring semester. A six percent tuition hike was approved in April to counteract reduced funding from state government.

Todd, who is in his 10th year as UK President, says budget problems are always a concern, but that the university will work through them.
