EKU Takes Over Central Ky. Airport

By Associated Press

RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky University has assumed management of a central Kentucky Airport, with officials hoping the arrangement brings stability to the facility.

Former EKU aviation instructor John Bonham has taken over as the new manager of the Madison County airport. Bonham told the Richmond Register he will use his contacts in corporate aviation to recruit business for the airport, which is jointly owned by the governments of Richmond, Berea and Madison County.

The university expects the airport to be self-supporting, but has allocated $112,500 to a contingency fund in its 2011-12 budget.

The university replaced former airport management company, Air51, which terminated its contract. The airport board has been operating the facility since January.
