Kentucky education officials want to tweak the state's English and math standards and they want help doing it.
With Common Core becoming a political lightning rod, Kentucky officials are hoping to offer the general public a clearer picture of the academic standards – while giving them a chance to improve them.
On Monday, they unveiled a website where people can view detailed information on the state’s new guidelines. People can rewrite them or click a green thumbs-up icon, similar to Facebook's "like" button.
"We're going to talk about how can we get these standards to be more rigorous to a degree, or at least more appropriate," Aaron Thompson with the Council on Postsecondary Education told WDRB-TV.
State Education Commissioner Terry Holliday said the process is not a referendum on the standards and noted the department would ignore complaints that don't contain suggestions for improving the standards.
