Frankfort, KY – On February 1st, after former Education Commissioner Jon Draud resigned for health reasons, deputy commissioner Elaine Farris was named interim commissioner. But Farris has now accepted a job as the new superintendent of Clark County Public Schools. Lisa Gross of the Education Department says Farris begins her new duties July 1st. "It would only be for about a month that Elaine would not be here because the board wants to have a new commissioner in place by August."

Gross says the state school board has a retreat in May, at which the interim position and the search for a permanent commissioner will be discussed. The board has already hired a Florida search firm to help locate qualified candidates for the permanent position.
