The building housing the Eagle Creek Branch of the Lexington Public Library has been auctioned off ahead of the branch’s move to a new location.
About 20 bidders vied for the Eagle Creek Drive location at an auction Friday afternoon – with a medical practice scoring the highest bid at about just over $2.5 million. Library spokesman Doug Tattershall says the sale puts Eagle Creek that much closer to a facility that can accommodate the foot traffic.
"Eagle Creek is a branch that is as busy as our two biggest branches, Tates Creek and Beaumont, and yet it's happening in a much smaller space," he says.
Already underway at the new location on Man O’ War Boulevard are renovations which will boost the number of books and other materials by 25 percent.
"Of our six locations, Eagle Creek would be our fifth smallest location, but it's going to be moving into what will be our largest branch," he explains.
Tattershall expects the transition be complete by March 1st of next year.
