DUI Checkpoints Hope To Curb Fatalities On Holiday Weekend

By Laura Ash

Louisville, KY – Last year during Labor Day Weekend six people were killed and many others were injured in traffic crashes involving alcohol. The Kentucky Office of Highway Safety is trying to reduce that number this year.

Safety Program Director Boyd Sigler says both state and local officers will be watching for impaired drivers.

"It's really a nationwide program, drunk driving, over the limit, under arrest. And police agencies throughout the nation are actually going to be out this holiday weekend."

In addition to the increased enforcement, the state highway safety department is putting 25 thousand Over the Limit, Under Arrest stickers on gas pumps throughout the state to remind motorists to drive safely.
