This Saturday, author and academic Dr. Cornel West will travel to Lexington for the Community Action Council’s annual LexEndPoverty fundraiser.
West told WUKY this week he looks forward to congratulating the city on some of its recent moves toward addressing poverty.
"First I'm going to be saluting those courageous and visionary citizens there in Kentucky who continue to keep the focus on our priceless poor people of all colors who deserve to live lives of decency and dignity," he said.
The activist and cable news regular will serve as the keynote for the event, which takes place Saturday at the Lyric Theatre. The address will be preceded by a cocktail reception and silent auction.
Community Action Council has as its mission preventing, reducing, and eliminating poverty among individuals, families, and communities through direct services and advocacy.
