Documentary Weaves Together Story Of Influential Kentucky Women

women.ky.gov

An hourlong documentary tracing the stories of 40 Kentucky women who helped shape the history of the Commonwealth and beyond is set to premier Tuesday in Frankfort.

“Dreamers & Doers: Voices of Kentucky Women,” which will debut in a handful of Kentucky cities in the coming weeks, had its genesis in an exhibit displayed in the state Capitol. Now, the film documenting the contributions of women in science, literature, politics, and a wide range of other fields is on its way to classrooms across the state.

Among those highlighted are Kentucky’s first and only woman governor, Martha Lane Collins, singer Loretta Lynn, and suffragette Josephine Henry.

Kentucky Commission on Women executive director Eleanor Jordan says she hopes the documentary will spur historians and educators to help fill in more of the historical gaps.

A list of the premiers is online is below. While the screenings are free, a ticket is required. You can request them at women.ky.gov.
