Democrats Quick To Blast Newest GOP Contender

Democratic National Committee

Democrats were quick to counter the euphoria by some of a Rand Paul presidential bid.  Former Kentucky State Senator Georgia Davis Powers took part in a DNC teleconference earlier today.

Powers, the first black female to serve in the Kentucky Senate, blasted Paul for his previous statements pertaining to the Civil Rights Act of 1964.  In 2010 Paul told the Courier Journal editorial staff that discriminating against anyone was “bad for business but at the same time I do believe in private ownership.”

“His rationale is no different than from that of the southern business owners of my youth, hidden under the auspices of property rights at the expense of human dignity," Powers said.  "If Rand Paul had his way the ultimate effect would mean our current President could be legally denied service at a restaurant or hotel.”

Powers went on to say that Paul realizes he needs black votes to win in the general election but that “we see through that,” adding that his record disqualifies him to lead this country in the 21st century.  DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman-Shultz says a Paul presidency would be “a massive lurch backwards to failed policies and narrow-minded extremism.”
