Dance Blue Raises More Than $1.6 Million

It was a record breaking tenth year anniversary for Dance Blue.

Hundreds of UK students spent the weekend dancing for a cause during the annual 24-hour marathon known as Dance Blue.  This is the second year Cassady Gorrell has participated; we caught up with after her she’d been on the dance floor for more than 22 hours.  “I had to come back!  It’s one of those experiences that like once you do it once you can’t stop.  It’s this beautiful thing where the whole community at the University of Kentucky comes together to unify for this cause and we’re like dancing together and becoming friends and it’s amazing.  You just can’t stop…can’t stop, won’t stop…I’m so tired!”

Students spend the year raising funds then meet at Memorial Coliseum where they mark each hour with a choreographed line dance.  The rest of the time is spent dancing; mingling and cheering on kids that are being treated for cancer at UK.  This year, Dance Blue raised a record setting $1,615,057.18.  That money will go to the DanceBlue Kentucky Children’s Hospital Pediatric Hematology and Oncology Clinic.
