Compassion Caravan Helping City's Most Vulnerable

Karyn Czar @WUKY

Freezing temperatures send most people inside.  But a group of volunteers known as the Compassion Caravan bundle up and head out, searching known spots in Fayette County where the homeless have set up camp.

There are broken down tents near train tracks, tarps under bridges and old discarded furniture under trees.  To some, this is home. Ralph Haffleg, is just one of dozens in the group who spends hours taking people to shelters to make sure they are safe from the cold. “Can you imagine being out in this cold?  There’s no TV, there is no sofa, there’s no blankets, there’s no gas or electric heat.  We think we have life tough don’t we?  We don’t !  We’re blessed and we need to share that with others”

The Compassion Caravan is organized with the help of the Catholic Action Center and they need your help.  Anyone interested in volunteering to transport people to shelters can contact the Center by calling 859-913-0038.  They also need winter donations like blankets, coats, hats, gloves and scarves.
