City To Hold Another Household Waste Disposal Day Saturday

By WUKY Staff

Lexington, KY – A transfer station at 1505 Old Frankfort Pike will be open from 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for residents to drop off a level pickup truck load of household waste and up to four rimless tires.

Division of Environmental Quality spokesman Mark York says free disposal days are offered four times a year and are a great opportunity for homeowners to safely and legally get rid of unwanted items.

"We find that we have a lot of people out there and they want to do the right thing and they want to be able to dispose of an item properly and so the free disposal day gives them a chance to do that."

It normally costs $52 per ton to dispose of household waste so York says it is an excellent opportunity to save some money. All loads must be covered with a tarp and participants must show a valid Fayette County drivers license.

The transfer station will not accept appliances, hazardous materials or free-flowing liquids.

More information on the free disposal day is available at LiveGreenLexington.com or by calling LexCall at 3-1-1 or 425-2255.
