Capilouto Named UK's 12th President

By Alan Lytle

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky officially has a president-elect. Today, after minimal discussion, the board of trustees unanimously voted to offer a contract to Eli Capilouto, the provost at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. The 61 year old Alabama native succeeds Dr. Lee Todd who is retiring on June 30th.

"Dr. Todd's dreams are part of the reason I am here. His vision, and lofty goals attracted me to this university. So I hope I can do everything in my power to advance the high expectations and accomplishments of this great university", said Capilouto.

Capilouto had this message for current and potential UK students:

"We are going to do everything in our power to make sure that you get a quality education. We will also try to do it in a way that makes this key to your future, one that is affordable."

At the same meeting, the board voted 12 to 6 to raise undergraduate tuition an additional six percent. Several members voiced concern that annual tuition hikes have already put the dream of a college education out of reach for an increasing number of students.
