Lexington, KY – Cooler temperatures and some recent rainfall have prompted the Lexington Fire Department to lift the open burning ban that's been in place since September, according to Battalion Chief Marshall Griggs.
"Essentially what the burn bad did was stop folks that even had a legal burn permit, not to be able to burn; just because of the extremely dry conditions. And so now what we're doing is allowing folks that would like to have a burn permit, they can apply for that, and get that, and they can do their burning."
The Fire Marshall's office is also reminding residents who may want to use an outdoor smoker, deep fryer, or grill to prepare that Thanksgiving turkey, to employ some common sense when doing so. Chief Griggs says, above all, never leave the cooking source unattended, and always extinguish smoking materials responsibly.
