Republican Gov. Matt Bevin vetoed five bills in their entirety and used his line-item authority on a sixth Thursday.
The governor struck down House Bill 75, setting new investment guidelines for local governments, and HB 130, which would have allowed the legislature to act on executive orders between sessions.
Bevin also drew a red line through three election-related measures: one moving some campaign finance filing deadlines, a second cutting the time for requesting absentee ballots, and another preventing voters from removing their names from the state voter registration list and then re-adding themselves as “newly-registered voters” in the next primary. The governor also removed parts of a bill dealing with Transportation Cabinet projects.
A tax reform "cleanup bill" won Bevin's signature, along with a controversial anti-gang measure.
With the 2018 session over, lawmakers will not have a chance to override any of the vetoes.
